ASSISTANCE FOR APPLE USERS 

A large share of the questions we receive can be corrected / answered by you trying these ideas first: 

1.  If your CAC does not work, you may have received one of the PIV II CAC's.  You can verify by looking on the back at the top for either of these (see examples below).  For Gemalto TOP DL GX4 144 CAC holders using: 

10.5.x (Leopard), you'll need to download CAC-NG (BETA v0.96).  Information regarding this file can be found on MAC OS FORGE.org under the Tokend Releases section. 

10.6.x (Snow Leopard) users should download the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update combo v1.1.  If Safari does not work after installing the Update Combo file, you will need to download Safari 5.1.2.  Some people are having better luck using Google Chrome. 

10.7.x (Lion) users find your options here.  Article about Chrome on Lion.

 
2.  If you have an Oberthur ID One 128 v5.5 Dual, or 5.2a Dual CAC, you now have 5 options, PKard, OpenSC, CSSi, LPS, or CACkey to use your CAC on your Mac computer.  You can watch a PKard demo then purchase it from Thursby Software or TX Systems.  You may also take your chances with the Open Source products:  OpenSC, CSSi, or CACkey

3.  If you have an SCR-331 CAC reader, you will need to update the firmware to be able to use the reader on your Mac.  There is still no guarantee it will work, it is however a free option to try.

4.  If you are using 10.5.x (Leopard) and have a Gemalto TOP DL GX4 144 CAC, you may want / need to upgrade to 10.6.x (Snow Leopard).  Your computer has to have an Intel chip for this to be possible, if your computer has the PPC chip, you may need to purchase a product like PKard.  You may purchase PKard from Thursby Software or TX Systems.

5.  If you have received a new CAC and are having problems accessing websites you accessed with your old CAC, follow this guidance to clear the login section of your keychain.

6.  If you have the IOGear GSR202 black CAC reader (bought at the PX / BX) and are having problems with it.  You will need to update the firmware on it (using a Windows computer) by following the instructions here.
