FIREFOX on WINDOWS INFORMATION PAGE  (Mac users look here)

If you have installed / upgraded your Firefox web browser, you may have initial problems using your CAC.  You will need to (re)configure your CAC reader again.  See #2 below

Your outcome may vary.  If the instructions below don't work, I will recommend you use either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome for CAC related websites.

Some Government websites simply will NOT work with Firefox.

I have been informed of one (1) way to use Firefox without ActivClient (by using an Open Source middleware program called OpenSC).  You can download the 32 bit version or the the 64 bit version.  I have not tested this option.  If you have, please let me know if it worked for you.

If you figure out any other ways to make Firefox work without having to install any middleware like: ActivClient or OpenSC, please email me and let me know HOW you did it.

NOTE:  Outcomes vary greatly...It could be as simple as steps 1 & 2 which allows the Firefox application to "see" the CAC while other users have tried all of the suggestions and still have issues.  A few computers have required #3.

1.  Download ActivClient 6.2 from links on ActivClient page

1a. Use an Open Source middleware program like OpenSC.  Download the 32 bit version or the the 64 bit version.

2. Use this helpful file that may assist you in making your CAC work with Firefox (if it already works with Internet Explorer)

NOTE:  Due to Firefox's unpredictable nature, you may not be able to use it with your CAC.  Give these ideas a try, you may get lucky.

2a. Another version of helpful file (it shows V4, but the process is the same for the current version of Firefox)

3.  Download the dod_configuration-1.3.5.xpi Firefox installation file from Forge.mil

4.  Follow the instructions located on the Firefox 2 page

5.  An option for you to be able to use Firefox and still access CAC enabled sites - IE Tab 2 (Add-on)

6.  If you'd like to use Firefox on your computer, but do not want to install it, try this.

7.  If you are seeing the following message:

Information received from: http://dotomaz.tumblr.com/post/786443743/firefox-4-0b1-and-ssl-renegotiation

You'll need to enable SSL renegotiation, do this by pointing your browser to about:config. After confirming that you know what you are doing, you need to start typing in:

security.ssl.allow_unrestricted_renego_everywhere__temporarily_available_pref

set it to true (by double clicking it). After this you should be able to access the site.
