REASONS WHY YOU MIGHT WANT TO HAVE YOUR OWN CAC READER AT HOME

1.  Log in quickly to AKO, change your password, add / or sponsor guests, and / or avoid the Knowledge Based Authentication (KBA) questions. 

1a.  AKO and all other DoD websites have to be 100% CAC compliant by "Until further Notice."

2.  Digitally sign forms such as NCOERs or OERs (utilizing Lotus Forms & Approve It) and access to AKO Forms (formerly MyForms) / FCMP

4.  Accessing your organizations Outlook Web Access (Requires Internet Explorer to be able to digitally encrypt)   (Firefox Instructions) 

NOTE: You need to select the Certificate with the word Email in it 

5.  Initiating DCO (Defense Connect Online) for virtual meetings.  Works on Windows, Lion, & Snow Leopard but NOT on Leopard, or Tiger.

6.  Quick access to other CAC enabled Military and Government web sites (See 1a above)
